From 2021 to 2024, I worked for the Daily Bruin, UCLA’s award-winning, independent and student-run newspaper. I was assistant design director of the Bruin from 2022 to 2023 and design director from 2023 to 2024.
As design director, I managed a team of 4 assistant design directors and over 40 designers. I spearheaded the creative direction for visual content produced by the Bruin, including the daily newspaper, podcast covers, social media posts, and multimedia packages.
I led print production of the daily newspaper, which distributes over 6,000 copies three times per week. Daily Bruin publishes stories in News, Sports, Arts and Opinion, with occasional special features from PRIME, a quarterly magazine that investigates campus issues. My work has been recognized by the Southern California Journalism Awards and the Pinnacle College Media Awards.
I designed a logo and covers for Daily Bruin Podcasts. The goal was to push the Daily Bruin brand forward while maintaining consistency with existing brand assets. Each podcast cover has a unique identity despite using a similar color scheme and logo.
I created designs for the Daily Bruin Instagram’s social media reporting. These posts and stories suggest fun activities for students and have a more light-hearted tone.
“Sounds of the Self” is a multimedia package published by the Daily Bruin in 2024. Stories in this package explore how sound impacts the lives of UCLA students. I led the creative direction for this package, designing the interactive webpage and Spotify playlist cover. Some stories from this package were also published in print.
I created these illustrations for the Daily Bruin Registration Issue in 2023, inspired by the board game Monopoly.
